I don't even know really where to start with this, because once again i'm reeled in to Katie's story about her life, her work and well Cisco (Retired German Shepherd Military K9). This series by Jennifer is one of those once you pick it up you just can't put it down, while you cook your dinner, or enjoying a hot drink, walking around the house and so on.
I had forgotten about the fact that she was finally thinking about herself and finding happiness with John after everything that had happened with Chad, was I guttered that things didn't work out with Chad well yes I was, but I feel like her and John are a much better fit.
The way that Jennifer described the first two victims about them running into the woods, hands holding and never letting go to the final last moments of their lives was unbelievable and I didn't expect it to hit me how it did. Did I walk into my daughter's room while she was sleeping to have cuddles after this? Well yes I did cause I just needed some snuggles.
So many different aspects to what was happening was something that had me reeling at all the facts, the fact that they're using drones now to map out the scenes and locations is pretty cool as well.
My mind is spinning full out by 21% with the events that happened (I'm not going into these cause then you will learn more than what you should if you read this book, which I recommended this book and the whole series).
Old murder victims, with kind of new murder victims with newer victims. I am lost without words. What did happen? Along the way I have thought and thought (all awhile my reasonings are all wrong) and what could be the answers to the case. The newer crime scene looks similar to the old crime scenes as well.
"Who was the person she saw in the woods at the construction site? And who rigged up a trap that was meant to cause more harm than injury?" Katie
25% into the story I was shocked with the events that happened once again, it didn't take long for trouble to happen for Katie. But really it wasn't that much trouble when you read about it. She was just given answers and things to look at, and she was returned safe and sound.
"Her dreams bothered her. This case concerned her. The suspects troubled her. The crime scenes disturbed her." Katie
"Become a police detective: It'll be fun, they said" Gav
The story itself was so well written, the events that happened in the past and present are so well written, placed and described.
One of my most favourite parts as I always say is that this series follows on from where the last story ended, there isn't any of these skip 6 months, 2 years and many more. It all follows through and you never miss any of the personal story lines from Katie, Gav and the rest of the characters.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookoutour & also Jennifer for another chance to arc read this series (it isn't the first book) and I'm sure that it won't be the last book.
